Poker is a card game of chance in which players bet on the strength of their hands. The highest ranked hand wins. Some variations of poker allow players to raise or “bluff” their opponents by betting, claiming to have a high or low hand. The player who continues to bet that their hand is the best will eventually win all the money that has been bet in a given round.<\/p>\n
Players are required to make forced bets, called blind bets, at the start of each hand and they may also choose to raise their own bet during a hand. When all of the players have decided whether or not to reveal their cards, the player who has the highest ranked hand wins the pot – all the money that has been bet during that particular hand.<\/p>\n
Each player is dealt five cards. Some games have wild cards which can take on any suit or rank, while others are limited to certain ranks and suits (for example four of clubs). Most poker hands contain three or more matching cards. Straights and flushes are made up of five consecutive cards of the same rank while three of a kind contains two identical cards of one rank plus one unmatched card and a pair is two identical cards of another rank plus two other unmatched cards.<\/p>\n
